In India drug manufacturing could take a start only towards the end of 19th century at the initiative of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, the eminent chemist who wrote, ‘ History of Hindu chemistry’. He started his company in 1892 at Kolkatta with a modest capital of Rs.700 only. In the beginning of 20th century several other firms cropped up following the lead taken by Acharya P.C.Ray.
